LISTEN: Tinnitus epidemic hits construction workers after historic PPE reluctance

On construction sites across the UK, workers are facing the risk of noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus as a result of not wearing PPE.

Tinnitus is often described as a ringing or buzzing in the ears, which is permanent and can make it harder to hear warning signs and hazards at work, bringing an increased risk of accidents.

It’s estimated that 7% of construction workers suffer from tinnitus.

Most noise related hearing damage is preventable in the construction industry if workers wear the proper PPE, but a historical combination of cultural and regulatory failures have left some feeling reluctant.
