England fans wandering through Wembley Park have shared their thoughts on the team’s historic third place finish in the FIFA World Cup following its conclusion.
The England team beat France six goals to four in a thrilling play-off for third place – their best finish in the World Cup since they won the tournament in 1966.
The hard-fought win against France is viewed by England fans as a consolation victory after a stinging defeat to 2022 champions Argentina in the semi-final just three days earlier, which finished 1-2.
Spain were ultimately crowned this year’s winners after clinching a late 1-0 victory in the final, crushing Argentina’s hopes of winning back-to-back world cups.
Reflecting upon the highs and lows of the tournament hosted in the USA, the fans are pleased with England’s performance in spite of not being able to go one step further and win the trophy for themselves.
