A community of 3,000 adults battle the loneliness epidemic through themed games inspired by children’s play.
PlayCulture has been hosting events all over London three times a month for nearly four years, encouraging strangers to play playground-style games.
Founder Ben Roper, 36, designs unique games for these events and has programmed an app that facilitates gameplay and connects users.
Roper said: “As adults, we don’t get to play socially; we leave that stuff behind as kids.
“I don’t see why we do that.”
PlayCulture received grant funding from UnLtd and Sport England to encourage people to get active, with a focus on neurodivergent individuals, particularly those who experience social isolation.
Roper said: “We’ve had someone accidentally run a 10k.”
An event took place today (14 June) at King’s Cross, with another one following on 21 June at Hyde Park.
