Cosmic, the charity that cares for babies and children in intensive care, holds an annual rubber duck race, brightening Merchant Square in Paddington and raising funds for their vital work.
This year, North West Londoner went along to watch 3,000 bright yellow rubber ducks make their way along the canal, and to hear from Cosmic CEO, Susannah Forland, about the remarkable work the charity does across two London hospitals – St Mary’s and Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea.
Forland says the charity raises around half a million pounds a year that goes towards projects like ‘Cosmic House’ — a parent accommodation facility that enables parents to stay near their children in paediatric intensive care in Paddington.
She said: “It means making one of the hardest times in their life just slightly easier.”
Funds raised from the rubber duck race go towards purchasing state of the art equipment, providing training for health professionals, funding a programme of ground breaking research into life-threatening diseases, and supporting families with one to one support, advice, counselling, and accommodation for parents.
