Northolt is ready to be rediscovered with public art

Artists have been invited to participate in a public art project to change the landscape of Northolt with public artworks.

Acton-based Art Charity ARTification invited artists to apply for public artwork ideas to create connections between art and people in Northolt London.

The charity has been selected as the implementation partner in Northolt Public Arts this year.

The goal of this project is to showcase diverse heritage, people, identity, and green spaces through the public art of the Brough.

The founder and director of ARTification Rachel Pepper told NW Londoner: “The project will beautify the place with art.”

After the artist submissions, there will be a stakeholder panel from artists, and community members and will make a decision to select the artists.

She said the commission would decide what kind of art would be selected. It would depend on the submission from the artist.

The artworks will be themed under Celebrating Heritage, Northolt’s People and Diversity, Identity and History, and Green Space Heritage.

Three pieces of art are to be unveiled to the public in locations such as Northala Fields, Islip Manor Park, and Northolt Station Bridge.

Contracts are finalised with commissioned artists, detailing timelines, costs, and deliverables.

She said: “We hope to unveil the artworks this summer for people to see, but it depends on the commission, selecting the project process, and getting permission from the councils for the art to be displayed.”

The deadline for the proposal is 6 May.

ARTification is a registered charity whose vision is to connect people and places through art.

It provides opportunities for community engagement through different projects like the W3 Gallery, kitchen garden, Acton Carnival, pop-ups, and collaborative projects.
