Network Rail issue apology as Brentford fans face disruption for Man United clash

Network Rail has issued an apology to Brentford FC fans for expected disruption ahead of the Bees’ first home game of the season due to a station closure.

Four days of planned engineering work will force fans to find alternate routes to the Gtech Community Stadium for Brentford’s match against Man United on 13 August.

The work, which will take place between Saturday 13 and Tuesday 16 August, will see nearby Kew Bridge Station temporarily close.

Network Rail’s managing director for Wessex route Mark Killick, said: “We know our work will make getting to Saturday’s match more difficult and we’re really sorry for the disruption.”

The project is part of £375m scheme which aims to update railway signals along the Hounslow Loop.

Replacement bus services will operate for four days on the affected lines while the work is carried out.

Sally Stephens, community relations director at Brentford FC, said: “We’ve been working closely with South Western Railway and Network Rail about the planned engineering works that will impact our first home game of the season.

“It’s clearly frustrating for our fans to have their journeys disrupted for our prestigious home season opener against Manchester United but we welcome the clear advanced communication.

“All supporters are advised to arrive early on Saturday and to check their route before they travel.

“We’d like to thank those customers impacted by these works for their patience and understanding as this vital upgrade is carried out.”

The match will be Brentford’s first home game of their second season since the club’s return to the Premier League.

They will face Leicester City away at the King Power Stadium on 7 August for their first match of the season.
