Enfield Council funds free swimming sessions for young people

Schoolchildren will be making a splash at the Enfield’s leisure centres this summer after Enfield Council moved to fund free swimming sessions for under-16s.

The sessions will be available over a six-week period from Monday, 25 July, and will end during the week commencing Monday 29 August and will be offered at centres across Enfield.

Anyone aged under 16 is eligible for the sessions, and people are advised to book early through the Fusion website here to ensure they can secure a place.

Cllr Chinelo Anyanwu, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Spaces, Culture & Local Economy, said: “We are funding free swimming for schoolchildren in the borough so they have they have the opportunity to take part in an enjoyable activity during the summer holidays.

“Swimming is a fantastic way to socialise, make friends and to exercise at the same time. I hope as many children as possible will take up this fabulous opportunity and book their free session.”

Two, free one-hour sessions are on offer each day from Monday to Friday at:

Albany Leisure Centre, 505 Hertford Road, Enfield EN3 5XH;

Edmonton Leisure Centre, 2 The Broadway N9 0TR;

Southbury Leisure Centre, 192 Southbury Road, Enfield EN1 1YP.

One-hour sessions will be available each day from Monday to Friday at Southgate Leisure Centre, Winchmore Hill Road N14 6AD.

One-hour sessions will be provided on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Arnos Pool, 269 Bowes Road, Arnos Grove N11 1BD.

Fusion and Enfield Council forecast that around 10,000 children will take up the spaces at the free swimming sessions.
