London-based teams set to play in FA Cup first round

This is a preview of all the London-based teams set to play in the first round of this season’s FA Cup on 5 November.

Charlton Athletic v Coalville Town

Charlton will welcome non-league opposition Coalville Town to The Valley.

The south east London club are currently ninth in League One and are expecting to move into the next round of the competition with relative ease.

Coalville Town find themselves in the Southern League Premier Division Central and striker Billy Kee will be looking to the team cause an upset.

Maidenhead United v Dagenham & Redbridge

Dagenham & Redbridge will visit Maidenhead United as they attempt to reach the second round.

The Daggers previously beat Beckenham Town an emphatic 7-0 in the fourth qualifying round to bag their place in the draw for the first round.

These two teams have already faced off in the National League this season, with Dagenham & Redbridge coming out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Weymouth v AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon are set to make a trip down to the south coast as they visit Weymouth.

It’s the hosts’ first return to the main draw since 2007, when they lost to Cambridge United in the second round.

Wimbledon will be looking to continue their upturn in recent form to progress into the next round of the competition.

Crewe Alexandra v Leyton Orient

Crewe Alexandra and Leyton Orient will be familiar with each other as they both play in League Two.

The Railwaymen have won each of their last four meetings with Orient in all competitions.

Saturday will be the first-ever FA Cup meeting between the two sides.

Sutton United v Farnborough

This Saturday will be the first time Sutton and Farnborough go head-to-head in the FA Cup.

In recent seasons, Sutton enjoyed success in the league with promotion to the Football League in 2020-21 followed by a strong League Two campaign in 2021-22.

Farnborough defeated Biggleswade Town 7-0 in the fourth qualifying round to get a place in the draw.

Barnet v Chelmsford City

These teams have only faced off twice before, both times in the 1990-91 FA Cup.

A 2-2 draw forced a replay and Barnet saw a successful away outing as they came out on top with a 2-0 victory.

National League side Barnet will be huge favourites as they play in the division above their opponents.
