Top searched Tour de France riders according to Google

As the iconic road cycling event gets underway, Google’s most searched Tour de France racers has been revealed by research from Buycycle, a marketplace for pre-owned bikes.

The list features Jonas Vingegaard with 673,000 average monthly searches, Tadej Pogačar with 368,000 and Wout van Aert with 368,000 in the top three.

Danish frontrunner Vingegaard rides for Team Visma/Lease a Bike, and is anticipated as one of the favourites for this year’s race.

Known for winning the 2022 and 2023 seasons of the Tour de France, Vingegaard is expected to put on a show at the competition, following his full recovery from a catastrophic crash and injury during the 2024 Itzulia Basque Country cycling race.

One of the runners up to Vingegaard’s Google search top spot is Tadej Pogačar, recognised worldwide for his fierce racing rivalry with the Danish athlete.

With an impressive 368,000 monthly Google search average, Pogačar is one of the main contenders in the race for the Tour de France victory, having finished first overall in the 2024 season.

The Slovenian cyclist is hailed for his attacking riding style in comparison to the energy-conserving race techniques of other riders, often allowing him to take opponents by surprise and claw his way to the top spot.

Pogačar rides with UAE Team Emirates, and holds a record for the youngest cyclist to win a UCI World Tour race at the Tour of California, aged 20 in 2019.

Another of the top-three contenders is Van Aert with 368,000 average monthly searches.

Racing for the Visma team, the Belgian rider is widely known for his successes in cyclo-cross, a hybrid sport which mixes cross-country cycling with mountain biking and road cycling, predominantly carried out on off-road terrain.

After winning three stages at the 2022 Tour de France, Van Aert has been hailed for his consistency in the sport.

Others named in the top ten include Australia’s Ben O’Connor and flying Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel.

The list produced by Buycycle, has revealed which Tour de France riders are on everyone’s mind as the most prestigious road race gets into gear for 2025.

At this early stage in the competition it is not yet clear to what extent the long-term favorites of cycling enthusiasts will snatch the top spot at the end of the race.

Perhaps, rather, there may be an underdog to surprise us.
