Frydrych and Weir pleased with confident Junior Wimbledon opener

Viktor Frydrych and Phoenix Weir hailed a dominant display as they cruised into the second round of the boys’ doubles at Wimbledon.

The wildcard pairing, who both train at the LTA’s National Academy in Stirling, produced a stylish performance as they defeated Antoine Ghibaudo and Kyle Kang 6-4 6-2.

It was a commanding performance, and both were left satisfied with what they were able to bring to court.

“I thought it was good – we both played really well,” said Weir.

“We came out of the blocks fast as well, and made a lot of returns in the first game. I thought it was a really dominant performance, it felt good to be out there.

Frydrych added: “I think from the first ball to the last ball we were very good. I think we were very intense as well with our feet, and were just keeping the energy high as well. We did a good job today.”

Both had already been in singles action early in the tournament, and this presented them with another opportunity to compete in front of their home crowd.

Weir commented: “I thought it was a great atmosphere. It was nice to have everyone out there supporting us both and it’s always an exciting time of the year, playing here.”

Frydrych added: “The atmosphere was very nice. It always is out there, especially for us Brits. They’ve always got our backs and it was special to go out on court and play.”
