London is officially in a heatwave, as temperatures are expected to soar well above 30C, but that doesn’t mean that Londoners can’t jump in to their summer bucket list safely.
Put on your flip flops, get your bathing suit, and grab the sunscreen, it’s time to make summer 2025 one for the history books.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a heat warning throughout London this week, so those out and about should make sure to hydrate well and come indoors to cool off regularly.
Londoners can also beat the heat by taking boat rides, visiting swimming ponds, and strolling through gardens throughout London.
But where are the best places to safely enjoy the sun in London this summer?
Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park
A local favorite for decades, many Londoners gather for summer fun at Serpentine Lido. Children ages 3 and under gain free entry while other rates apply for swimming sessions or an all-day stay.
Pack a picnic and make it a family fun day, there is a designated sunbathing space for patrons who prefer not to get wet, and there is a paddling pool for Hyde Park’s youngest swimmers.
Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets to sit in the grass. Plan to arrive early so you have a place to relax in the nearby grass because midday crowds can be cumbersome.
Hampstead Heath Swimming Ponds
Did you know that Hampstead Heath inspired C.S. Lewis to write the events in The Chronicles of Narnia? Let your imagination run wild as you swim in the mixed pond or the gendered ponds.
Check the swimming tickets to see if you’d like to do the pay-as-you-go or season ticket options. If you plan to visit Hampstead Heath regularly, the season tickets will offer more value. Swimmers younger than 16 or aged 60 and older can swim for free from opening hours to 9:30 am as long as they bring a birth certificate to prove their age.
Sky Garden
Relax by taking a stroll through Sky Garden. As London’s highest public garden, it boasts great scenic skyline views and lush greenery. This is a perfect visit for photographers to capture their next great snapshot or for families who appreciate a garden’s beauty.
Wait until it cools off and attend one of their summer parties in the evening. Dine at the on-site Larch restaurant for a traditional taste of Italy accompanied by delightful garden views.
Thames Clipper River Boat
Have a Thames Clipper river boat to enjoy scenic views of London across their 20-plus piers. Children ride free with the purchase of a family ticket and buyers can save 10% by booking online. The wind against your body as the boat travels through the water will cool you down as you explore London like you’ve never seen before.
Alternative Solution: Have a Home Day
Just stay home if you don’t feel like going out. Think of the peace and less running around you have to do by remaining indoors. Plus, you can save money on petrol and other expenses by enjoying a home day.
During your entertainment hour, you can play some casino games on NetBet UK. Take the slot machines for a spin to see where your luck lands you. Try new betting strategies as you play different rounds of blackjack. See how the dice land during a game of craps. Wager wisely and have fun!
Work on a household project you’ve procrastinated starting. Clean your home in between watching your favorite episodes of a television show.
The possibilities are endless when you plan to enjoy a home day. Have groceries delivered so you don’t have to go anywhere before cooking dinner. Better yet, order takeout so you don’t have to cook at all.
