A UK-wide conservation charity is silently protecting green spaces and volunteers’ wellbeing in Camden.
The Conservation Volunteers charity (TCV), with David Attenborough as its Vice President, runs bi-weekly ‘Green Gyms’ – with some participants in Camden in attendance for more than 10 years.
The project aims to connect people with each other and themselves, with nature preservation at the forefront, and exercise as a passive side effect.
Senior project officer Peter Hutchings said: “One of the main parts of the green gym is that green outcomes are sometimes incidental to the health and wellbeing of the participants.”
Sessions start with a walk through the site before specific tasks begin, which can include tree planting, resurfacing paths, or creating ponds for wildlife.
