WATCH: The London Irish Centre: seventy years of community and culture

With Ireland appearing in the cultural spotlight more than ever — from musicians like Fontaines DC and Kneecap to actors like Jessie Buckley and Cillian Murphy — the North West Londoner visited London’s longstanding hub of Irish culture: the London Irish Centre.

Based in Camden, the centre serves as both a gathering place for London’s Irish community and a provider of vital social services.

It also welcomes anyone interested in learning more about Irish culture, offering events, classes and programmes that celebrate the island’s heritage and evolving identity.

Having celebrated its 70th anniversary last September, the centre looks back on its history, while aiming to build towards its next 70 years.

CEO Séamus MacCormaic discussed the organisation’s past, the evolving identity of Irish culture in Britain, and the Centre’s ambitions for the decades ahead.
