The City of London Corporation has plans to replace four independent Hampstead cafes with coffee chain Daisy Green – but its customers aren’t going down without a fight.
More than 20,000 people have signed a petition against the takeover, while a crowdfunder for legal representation against the decision has raised £8,000 so far.
Hampstead locals Omar, Joe, and Teddy said they often meet at the Parliament Hill Lido Cafe.
They said: “We’ve been coming here since we were kids. The staff are lovely, and there’s always a friendly face.
“This is a proper locals’ place – a place where you feel part of the community. It just won’t be the same if the takeover goes ahead.”
The City of London Corporation insist the retendering process was open and independently supported.
Daisy Green has been approached for comment.
