It was a true love story — a royal partnership built on devotion, ambition, and shared purpose.

When Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, the young couple inherited three royal residences. Yet despite their grandeur, none provided the comfort, seclusion, or family-friendly atmosphere they longed for to raise their nine children.

Privacy is priceless for a well-known family, and Queen Victoria wanted a space where she could feel comfortable and safe from the mobs of people who peered into her home in Brighton, yet still be available to rule the British Empire.

The story of how Victoria and Albert designed and built their home on the Isle of Wight, is a love story of sharing time together, and fostering a place where their children could learn life skills.

They incorporated cost savings into the design and construction of their home which anyone building or renovating a home today, can apply.
